The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation is set to introduce an odd-even formula for parking lots in the busy RS Puram area. The pilot practice of shuffling parking lots between different venues will come into effect from November 15. According to the scheme, parking lots will be shifted from area to another on odd and even months to prevent year-round overcrowding at any particular venue, said CCMC commissioner R Vijayakarthikeyan.

Convening a consultative meeting with the owners of business establishments, NGOs and traffic police, Vijayakarthikeyan said that parking lots in busy shopping areas come at a premium, so shifting it on odd and even months would allow all business establishments to share the burden.

Eviction of encroachments in arterial roads and putting up signages at the required places in the corporation limits will be carried out soon, he said, adding a message for the public to follow road and traffic rules and extend cooperation to traffic police personnel and NGOs involved in traffic regulation in the city.
