Tribals of the Colony Pudur in the Tholampalayam village here have petitioned to District Collector TN Hariharan to re-shift a bus stop, which was moved to a new spot in response to a peculiar petition.
According to one of the petitioners, the villagers were using a bus stop in the middle of the village for 17 years and it enabled easy access to important utilities, including the ration shop and medical centres. However, someone petitioned the district administration to shift the bus stop close to his house, as his wife was suffering from knee pain.
“His request was accepted and the bus stop was shifted to the front of his house. But this has deeply inconvenienced us as we are forced to walking for more than half a mile now to reach the stop,” said a villager.
She added that even old persons are forced to walk long distances to reach the bus stop with heavy packages of ration items.
“The previous spot is perfect for all the villagers; just to accommodate the needs of one person, the authorities should not make an entire village suffer,” opined a villager. They added that even after repeated requests with the police and local authorities, nothing has been done.
They submitted a petition.
