Six killed in car-lorry collision

Six members of a family were killed in an accident when the car in which they were travelling collided with a lorry near Ulundurpet last night.

According to sources, Ramachandran (34) of Perungalathur, Sundaram (60), Susheela (50), Padma (55), Akash (11) and Paapathi (70) had gone to Thanjavur to attend the engagement of Sundaram’s son Naresh.

The family was returning home when their car collided with a lorry that was on its way to Tiruchi from Thiruvannamalai.

The accident occurred around 1 a.m. near Asanur Road. Five of them died on the spot and Paapathi, who was severely injured, was rushed to Ulundurpet Government Hospital, where she died.

The Edaikkal police have filed a case and launched a manhunt for the lorry driver who fled the spot.
