In order to help the general public in and around the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) exchange Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 denominations with notes in legal tender, India Post on Tuesday set up a mobile ATM there.

The centre that was set up by India Post was aimed at helping people who were unable to move out of CMCH to exchange cash.

According to a senior official at the centre, it was a part of the initiative carried out by the government to ease the struggles faced by the public in exchanging cancelled old notes.

“Such centres have been set up in various government offices where people can exchange the notes using a simple format followed in all India Post offices,” the official added.

Welcoming the initiative, S Kumutha, a patient at CMCH, said that the centre should function for more days as it would be useful for patients. “We are in a situation from where we cannot run here and there to exchange money. We hope the centres work till the problem outside settles down,” she added.
