Around 10 students from the Delhi Public School Coimbatore today gathered at NSR Road at 7 pm to get an insight into the civic cleaning process in the city. The group was guided by Sumitra Shetty, volunteer from Swachh Women Wonders.

Through the awareness drive, students were informed on the duties assigned to corporation workers. Sanitary supervisors Murugan and Ramaswamy told students that it is not only the duty of cleaners, but also of the public to dispose waste properly. They pointed out that if people segregate and dump waste correctly, it will become easier for the workers to collect and dispose it properly.

Sumitra said, “The students showed great interest in knowing about the cleanliness of NSR Road. They had gone to the Corporation commissioner with cleanliness concerns, along with pictures of the road which had broken footpath slabs and litter. They were told about the ward division system and how each ward has a sanitary supervisor.

They requested one of the ward representatives for more information and so, this programme was organised for them.”

Tomorrow, students will participate in a cleanliness drive at NSR road.
