Bengaluru: In a world that only teaches you to compete and be better than the other, it is sad that we don’t equip our children to deal with such pressures. We don’t equip them to conquer their fears. We pit them against each other and rarely think of the consequences. We break their confidence on a day-to-day basis and have no time to build it. We are hard-pressed for time, so we don’t tell them enough how good they are. It is important for us to embrace the saying that ‘confidence is the most beautiful outfit one can wear.’ And also inculcate a similar confidence in our children, a belief in themselves to cruise through life’s ups and downs.

An event that believed ‘confidence is beautiful’ got kids together to be at their fashionable best. International Kids Couture in association with United Colours of Benetton and Divas & Dudes saw kids walking the ramp in some enviable clothes. “The seed of the idea is to have kids walk the ramp, and prior to that a grooming class for the kids came from watching them. They know it all these days. They instruct us on the haircut that they want, the clothes they want to wear, and on almost everything. They have an incredible fashion sense. So, I thought of organising this event where they would have fun, fashion and grooming,” says AnuBasavaraju of Divas and Dudes, a salon and spa for kids.

The event saw many known faces participate;VandanaBoggeram who runs WoW, PrakashNanjappa, shooter who competed in the recent Olympics, Wanitha Ashok, the fitness queen of Bangalore, and DivyaChauhan,ex Miss India 1997 were all ambassadors for the designers who showcasedtheir work.

The kids oozed amazingconfidence. “I walk the ramp more often than these kids (with butterflies in my stomach); however, their confidence was top notch! They walked the ramp with the right attitude and winning smiles,” says Shalini Chopra, show stopper for International Kids Couture.

Apart from confidence, what’s hot in kids’ couture? “Vibrant colours and clean patterns rock this season, with pink, orange and red being the predominant colours. Pure cotton and light silk is definitely in,” concludes Jose John and Twinkle Jose, Faye Dresses.
