Teachers want salary in cash

In view of the hardship being faced to withdraw money from banks after demonetisation, a group of teachers today appealed to the district administration to take steps to disburse their salary by cash.

In a memorandum submitted to the District Collector T N Hariharan, the teachers said that since the government has fixed Rs. 2,000 for exchange or withdrawal, it would be difficult for teachers to stand in long queues at banks or ATMs every time they needed money.

As this would adversely affect the functioning of teachers and educational institutions, the administration should take efforts to disburse their salary by cash or allow them to withdraw the entire amount, so that day-to-day work was not affected, they said.

Moreover, there would be long queues on November 30, the day the government credits the salary to the accounts of staff and employees, they said.

In view of this, the government should take steps to disburse the salary by cash through treasuries till the problem was sorted, the memorandum said.
