Members of political outfit Samathuva Kazhakam have petitioned the District Collector T N Hariharan to intervene and instruct revenue offices to issue community certificates to six sub-castes of the Arundhathiyar community as per the existing laws.

Citing the recent government order passed in this regard, the members said that the sub-castes of the Arundhathiyar community including Chakkiliyan, Mathaari, Paagadai and Thotti come under the broad category of the Arundhathiyar community. But when members of these communities apply for community certificates, the revenue officials all over the district do not abide by the existing rules and refuse to issue certificates to them as Arundhathiyar, a scheduled caste community.

The respective revenue officials have refused to issue the community certificates even though the six sub-castes are notified under one broad category of Arundhathiyars, they said.
