Over 700 members belonging to various Hindu outfits and social and spiritual organisations today sat on one-day hunger strike in the city, highlighting the plight of Hindu religion.

Organised by the Hindu Unity Centre, BJP state general secretary Vanati Srinivasan, RSS State unit president R.V.S. Marimuthu, BJP district presidents and local functionaries of various Hindu outfits, observed the fast. Some pontiffs of local mutts visited the venue and extended their support.

The agitators alleged negligence from the police side while handling the murder cases of Hindu leaders in recent times. “No arrests have been so far,” they said.

Alleging that poor and oppressed Hindus were converted and Hindu girls being kidnapped by allurement, they expressed concern over the decline in the Hindu population across the Country.

The members, including 100 women, raised slogans against the State Government and police for ‘throttling the voice and constitutional rights of Hindus’.
