Insurance firm ordered to pay Rs. 15.93 lakh compensation to accident victim’s wife

The Motor Accident Case Claims Tribunal in Thanjavur ordered the Regional Manager of Oriental Insurance Company, Thanjavur, to pay a compensation of Rs. 15.93 lakh to wife of a businessman who died in a road accident in 2014.

According to prosecution, 33-year-old Sureshkumar, resident of Saliyamangalam in Papanasam taluk was proceeding in his motorbike to Orathanadu on December 3, 2014 when a van coming from the opposite direction collided with his motorbike near Madigai village on the Pattukottai road. Sureshkumar was admitted to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital where he succumbed the next day.

Sureshkumar’s wife Sangeetha (28) filed a petition before the Motor Accident Case Claims Tribunal in Thanjavur praying direction to the Oriental Insurance Company to pay compensation.

In his verdict, principal sub-judge Poorna Jaya Anand ordered the firm to pay the compensation of Rs. 15.93 lakh to Sangeetha.
