Central team to visit cyclone-hit TN

Chennai: A team of officials from the Centre will tour Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts to assess the damage caused by cyclone Vardah tomorrow.
The team, headed by Joint Secretary Praveen Vashishta from the Home Ministry, will comprise officials from the Ministries of Finance, Agriculture, Industries and Rural Development, among others.
Immediately after the cyclone that crossed Chennai coast last Monday, the Chief Minister O Panneerselvam had sought disbursal of Rs 1,000 crore as an interim relief package. Panneerselvam, accompanied by officials, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi yesterday and sought an early release of cyclone emergency fund to Tamil Nadu.
