The general council of the DMK, which was put off earlier due to the ill-health of party president M Karunanidhi, will now be held on January 4.

In a statement here, party general secretary and former Minister K. Anbazhagan said the meeting, to be held at Anna Arivalayam, will be chaired by Karunanidhi. The meeting was earlier scheduled to be held on December 20.

Speaking to reporters here today, DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly M.K. Stalin said Karunanidhi has recovered.

On the recent IT raids, he said a detailed probe needs to be done on the raids on former Chief Secretary Rama Mohana Rao.

Stalin also said Tamil Nadu needs to be declared as a drought-hit State and a demand in this regard by the DMK has been pending for a longtime. Asked about his elevation as working president, he said, ‘wait till general council’.

At the general council, Karunanidhi would be making his first public appearance in nearly three months, after he suffered a drug-induced allergy and was subsequently admitted to hospital for treatment of lung and throat infection.

The agenda of the meeting was to discuss about the party’s constructive activities and to discuss the reports of the party committees, according to Anbazhagan.
