First TN Assembly meet since Jaya’s death on Jan 23

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Assembly is set to meet for the first time since the demise of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, when the session convenes on January 23. Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao has convened the State Legislative Assembly.

The Assembly is scheduled to meet at 10 am and a notification to this effect has been issued by the Assembly Secretariat.

“In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by clause (1) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India, I, Ch Vidyasagar Rao, Governor of Tamil Nadu, hereby summon the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to meet at 10 am on Monday, the January 23, 2017, in the Assembly Chamber, Secretariat,” the notification said.

The first day will begin with the Governor’s address.

The Assembly meet is expected to be a high-voltage one as opposition parties will be raising questions on various issues including the recent farmers’ deaths and the drought conditions that are prevailing in the State.
