A Pongal feast at the elephant camp

It was a feast to the jumbos at the Chadivayal elephant camp. Pongal was cooked in large quantities for the elephants that are being rejuvenated at the camp.

Officials from the Coimbatore Division of the Tamil Nadu Forest Department along with various NGOs were part of the c Yanai (Elephant) Pongal celebrations.

The elephants in the camp including Pari and Sujoy were decorated by the mahouts as part of the celebrations and various games including tug of war and “uriyadithal” entertained the mahouts and Anti-Poaching Watchers (APWs) in the camp.

Gift hampers were also given to the mahouts and APWs. Dresses were also distributed.

Earlier, Pongal was cooked inside the camp and the elephants were fed with sugarcane, jaggery besides a variety of fruits.

District Forest Officer S. Ramasubramaniam, Forest Rangers of Coimbatore Division and members of various NGOs participated in the event.
