Journalists take up cudgels for Jallikattu

The demand for lifting the ban on Jallikattu today echoed in the Blue Mountains with journalists, both from the print and visual media, joining hands to stage a demonstration in front of the Collectorate.

Expressing their solidarity with protesters in various parts of the State,they urged the Centre to be sensitive to the sentiments of the people of Tamil Nadu and promulgate an ordinance in favour of the traditional sport. A spokesman said that journalists in Ooty and Coonoor have decided to go on a hunger strike on Friday.

Meanwhile members of the trading community have announced that they would down shutters on Friday.
