Noted writer Lakshmi Saravanakumar has vowed to return the award to Sahitya Academy in favour of reviving Jallikattu.
Even as Jallikattu revival has captured the imagination of all youngsters and college students and snowballed into mass movement all over the State, the Tamil writer has sworn his support to Jallikattu by returning his Sahitya Academy Yuva Puraskar award, which he won for Kaanakan, a novel based on tiger hunting practices of Paliar tribes.
Lakshmi Saravanakumar has announced that he would return the award to the academy itself, protesting against the ban on Jallikattu. He has also set a deadline for the Central Government to act in favour of Jallikattu by enacting an ordinance well before January 19.
“If the Centre does not come out with a favorable decision before 19, I would return my award on January 20 to the academy itself in Chennai,” he said.
