A fully equipped ophthalmic mobile van named ‘Rainbow’ which is set to target 6 lakh students in the next two years was flagged off by Special Officer and Corporation Commissioner Dr K.Vijaykarthikeyan at Sankara Eye Hospital.
The project is executed by Rotary Coimbatore Central in collaboration with Sankara Eye Hospital. The bus has all necessary diagnostic equipments and other medical paraphernalia that gives it a feel of a comprehensive eye clinic.
The team includes eye specialist ,optometrist, supervisor and driver. This van will be used for organizing eye camps in government schools.
The students who have vision problems will be given free spectacles and those who have to undergo surgery they will be referred to Sankara Eye Hospital where it will be performed for free.
Digital data of the students who undergo the eye check up will be maintained by the hospital for future reference.
The key were handed over by the Dr.Prakash Chandran Governor – RI district 3201 to D.Balasundaram,Rainbow Project Chairman.
