More international flights to Coimbatore likely

The Union Civil Aviation Minister Pusapati Ashok Gajapati Raju said that the government will try to increase the number of international flights to and from Coimbatore airport.

Talking to the media at the Coimbatore airport, the minister said that the government is working on a new aviation policy. The ministry will publish the draft on the internet to gather feedback and opinions from all. Once sufficient feedback is received, the draft policy will be prepared.

On increasing the number of international flights from Coimbatore airport, he said that many countries had signed bilateral agreements, but have not yet started operating the flights. He assured that the Indian government will try to execute these agreements. On the issue of expansion of the airport, he said that once the state acquires the land, the expansion works will begin.
