All the Rajini fans shout, Thalaivaa become our neta

Thalaiva continued to confound all the Rajini fans, with his intelligently worded ambiguous word play on entry into politics – it means different things to different people. His die-hard fans took it as a signal that their God was joining politics to clean up the corruption that had seeped into every aspect of life in Tamil Nadu.

Those who want to rope him into political fold, like the BJP, saw in the ambiguous statement of Rajinikanth on Monday “if God gave him a role in politics, he would live up to it,” as a firm announcement of intent of joining politics. Its leader, TN BJP chief Tamilisai Soundarrajan in fact welcomed him into the BJP, as he was committed to cleaning up politics and make it corruption free.

But, the statement of Rajinikanth, contained in the speech he made to his fans congregated on the opening day of his durbar on Monday at the Raghanvendra Mandapam at Kodambakkam, was as confusing as his other similar utterances in the past. There was no clear cut message whether he will join politics or not. His fans of course wanted him to enter and rule the state and fulfil aspirations of the youth.

Both the Dravidian parties have failed on this front, the youth present at the congregation told media persons.

“If Rajinikant Sir becomes a politician, he will be the best. In the current day politics, Rajinikanth will be the cleanest person which Tamil Nadu needs desperately, said a devout Thalaiva fan.

“Thalaiva should announce his own party and clean up Tamil Nadu. Yes he is the only one who can save Tamil Nadu and take it forward again,” said another fan.

“It is a very great day for me as I have met the god himself,” said yet another gushing fan.

BJP state unit chief Tamilisai Soundarrajan welcomed Rajinikanth’s oblique hint at political role for himself. Anyone who wants to root out corruption was welcome in the BJP she said.

The Thaliava himself declared that he supported no political party and asked cadres to be careful if any party was exploiting his name.

But he came with his indirect hint to confuse his fans and politicians alike.

“The god has asked me to act in movies and today I am an actor. If he gave me the role in politics, I will be true to it” Rajinikanth said.
