Chennai: Seven coaches and the engine of the Tirunelveli-Pune special express train derailed near Minatchipuram on the Pollachi-Palakkad section last late night. None was injured.
Southern Railway sources said on Wednesday that the derailment followed a tree falling on the track after gusty winds.
Senior railway officials rushed to the site and made arrangements for diverting the train via Dindigul to Palakkad. Restoration work on the track was on, they said.
