Salem: People in Athur in Salem district were left baffled when they noticed bundles of torn demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes near a garbage. The surprise got curious dimensions as the bin was close to two banks.
The public noticed the bundles of banned notes in a heap near the garbage close to branches of the State Bank of India and Central Co-operative Bank, police said.
The around 5 kg bundles would have had a value between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh before demonetisation, police said, adding that investigation was on.
