Farmers in Sulur today urged the district administration to take stringent action some industrial units that were discharging wastes into the agricultural land.

Members of Tamil Nadu Farmers Association submitted a memorandum to District Collector T.N. Hariharan, stating that industries in the region were discharging chemicals into agricultural lands affecting the crop and also the underground water.

“Due to this, the ground water is totally polluted and even not fit for consumption even by cattle,” the farmers said.

They displayed a few coconuts, the growth of which was affected due to the discharge of release of water from industries through underground pipelines.

Considering the difficulties faced by the farmers and also the residents, the administration should take immediate action to shift the industries or ordered to be closed, the petition said.
