CM seeks NEET exemption for State quota seats

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi a memorandum highlighting several issues pertaining to the State, including seeking approval of bills for exemption from National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for the State government quota seats.

Palaniswami who met Modi today also sought steps for establishing an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the State.

The State has proposed to initiate a Rs 14,500-crore project for improving and rehabilitating the irrigation systems in the Cauvery Basin which should help irrigate 6.5 lakh hectares. As part of taking forward this, the Chief Minister requested Modi to direct the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation to give necessary techno-economic and investment clearances at the earliest.

The other demands include release of pending claims under National Agriculture Insurance Scheme and Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, looking into construction of dams and check dams across the Bhavani by Kerala and Pamba-Achankoil-Vaippar interlink.

He also sought Central support for the people-involved age old water resource management system of Kudimaramath.
