The Federal Skill Academy is planning to open two more centres in different vocational streams. The location for them was being identified, a top official said today.

The academy has two centres in Kochi and Coimbatore, where in the first year 240 and 136 students were successfully trained and 70 and 80 per cent of them were placed, Federal Bank Shalini Warrier told mediapersons.

The academy plans to train 450 students each in these centres from this financial year, she said making them have to skills and be employable in the country and abroad. Shalini, here for the maiden convocation of students, said that at present academy is imparting training in air conditioning and refrigeration course in Kochi and CNC machine operator-cum-programmer course in Coimbatore.

The academy proposes to introduce few more demand-oriented, industry driver skill programmes that will benefit more students from the backward section in finding a career, she said.
The academy is also launching a pilot self employment programme for women in terracota jewellery-making in Kochi, which will later converted to a self-help group, Shalini said.
