Over 100 persons belonging to various organisations were arrested today, when they attempted to lay siege the district headquarters of AIADMK, seeking immediate release of Tirumurugan Gandhi, who was detained under the Goondas Act.

Led by Aadi Tamilar Peravai, the activists assembled near South Taluk office in the city and marched towards the AIADMK office, some 200 metres away, holding placards displaying their demands, police said.

Tirumurugan Gandhi and a few others were detained in Chennai, when they were on their way to pay homage to Sri Lankan Tamils, who were killed by the Sri Lankan Army.

They raised slogans, accusing the Tamil Nadu Government for being a puppet in the hands of BJP Government at the Centre, which were trying to divide the population on caste and religious basis.

The agitators also demand that the Centre withdraw the notification banning sale of cattle for slaughter, which affected eating habits of a large number of people, police said As the march was reaching to the party office, police arrested them.
