More than 200 volunteers took part in the mock emergency drill at the Coimbatore airport on Tuesday.

Organised by the Airports Authority of India in collaboration with Kovai Medical Centre Hospital (KMCH), the drill was conducted with a detailed plan of action and created situations in a realistic way in which more than 75 volunteers performed as victims and crew members.

“The full scale emergency drill is an exercise to check our readiness on real time situation. We are committed to the safety and well-being of our passengers and we consistently strive to incorporate and upgrade the best of world class safety measures,” said the Airport Director R. Mahalingam. He appreciated those who participated in the mock drill.

“As per NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals) standards protocol, once in every six months KMCH conducts Code Yellow (for Disaster), Code Red (for fire) and Code Pink (for infant abduction) drills towards enhancing the efficacy in emergency handling. Such kind of emergency training would be a great exposure to our staff members which will enhance their technical skills and balance their emotional intelligence on such situations,” said Dr. Nalla G. Palaniswami, Vice-Chairman of KMCH.
