Two men were hacked to death by an unidentified gang last night at Oppanakkara Street. Search is on for the assailants

Moideen Basha and his friend Haneef Mohammed were walking by the street when a gang on two motorcycles waylaid them and started attacking Moideen with the knives they had brought along. Hanif tried to defend his friend, but he too was attacked.

When the gang noticed public movement on the road, they fled. Members of the public rushed both Moideen Basha and Haneef Mohammed to a nearby private hospital. But, Moideen died on way to the hospital. Hanif died in the morning, without responding to treatment.

Police Commissioner A.K. Vishwanathan visited the spot and formed five special teams to nab the assailants.
