Burglars struck the house of a TNEB employee in the city and decamped with about Rs.2 lakhs and 23 sovereign of gold jewels.

R Jayadevi, a technical assistant in TNEB, had locked her house in Tatabad and gone to Kanyakumari with her entire family on May 28. The neighbours who noticed the lock of her house broke open last evening informed her, who rushed back returned early today.

She found the almirah open and Rs.2.12 lakhs in cash and 23 sovereign gold ornaments missing from it. Based on the complaint, police are investigating and pressed sniffer dog and fingerprint experts into service. CCTV footage in the area is also being monitored.
