2,400 pirated DVDs seized, one held

Police arrested a shop owner on charges of selling pirated DVDs and seized nearly 2,400 DVDs from his possession.

According to the police, the raid was conducted late last night following information about the circulation of pirated DVDs of new and also pornographic films in the city. Police arrested Jayadhanapandian, who was selling the DVDs of Tamil, Malayalam and Hollywood movies, and pornographic films at his shop, they said.

Further, following a confession by the 59-year old, police seized five DVD writers from a godown. He used to download the pirated versions of new movies from websites and also bring pirated discs from Chennai.

Jayadhanapandian was produced before a magistrate this afternoon and remanded to judicial custody.
