28 injured as two buses collided

Thanjavur: At least 28 passengers, including 14 women and two children, sustained grievous injuries and were hospitalized after a state owned transport corporation bus and a private bus collided in Thanjavur today.

The TNSTC bus was on its way to Tiruchy from Thanjavur, and the private bus was coming to Thanjavur from Pudhukottai when the two buses collided at Melavasthachavadi junction in Thanjavur this afternoon. In the mishap, 28 passengers, including Anjammal (75), Swathi (35), Vinayagaponraj (22), Muthusamy (26), Sivasubramaniam (32), Mariaselvam (32), and Susila Immaculate (3), were injured.

Of the injured, 12 passengers, including six women and a girl, were admitted to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital, while the other 16 passengers were admitted to a private hospital in Thanjavur. On being informed, collector Annadurai visited and consoled the passengers admitted at TMCH.

Tamil University police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
