About 300 DMDK members who were agitating on the roads were arrested by the police in Coimbatore today.

After the death of Sasi Perumal, when he climbed on to a cell phone tower demanding Prohibition in Tamil Nadu, his widow, sons and other relatives have joined the protest. Members of the DMDK organized human chain protests all over the state, demanding that sale of liquor be banned in the state.

As part of the agitation in Coimbatore, around 300 DMDK members assembled near the Red Cross building. Angered that permission to protest was denied to them, they resorted to demonstration on the spot. When they heard that their leader Vijaykanth was arrested in Chennai, they began picketing the road demanding his immediate release. They marched up to Anna statue and demonstrated on the main highway raising slogans demanding total prohibition and the release of their leader Vijaykanth. There was chaos and commotion on the roads, with traffic getting blocked.

The police arrested all the 300 demonstrators.
