44-year old man attempts to commit suicide over delay of divorce

Coimbatore : Depressed over the reported delay in deciding the divorce case, an auto driver on Monday attempted suicide by consuming cow dung powder in the District Court premises.

According to police, Kavitha, wife of the 44-year old Pandurangan in a village in Salem district, had applied for divorce due to domestic dispute nine years ago at the Family Welfare Court here.

Already under stress, Pandurangan, who appeared before the court reportedly told the judge to expedite the case, they said.

Emerging out of the court, he consumed cow dung powder.. A few members of the public noticed and rushed him to the Government hospital here, where he is undergoing treatment, police added.
