Five youths, aspiring to join the Indian Army, were arrested today on charges of submitting fake certificates while applying for the job.

Shaktivel, Mohan, Manikandan, Tirupati and Santhosh – all hailing from Thiruvannamalai – cleared physical fitness and medical tests three months ago at the Madras Regiment Centre (MRC) in Wellington.

They were subsequently selected.

During the scrutiny, it was found that the youths had submitted false certificates – transfer certificate, mark list or ex-servicemen certificate.

Based on a complaint from MRC, Coonoor police investigated the matter and brought them from Thiruvannamalai.

All of them were produced before Coonoor court, which remanded them to 15 days judicial custody. They will be sent to central jail in Coimbatore, police said.
