The reservations announced in the Coimbatore civic body polls comes as a shot in the arm for women candidates. In addition to the mayor’s seat, the Government has allotted 50 percent of the wards here to women.
According to a release from the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation, the Corporation has reserved 10 out of the 100 seats to scheduled caste contestants, of which five are women.
In the remaining 90 wards, women will be contesting in 45 wards and other wards have been declared as general, which will be contested by both men and women.
While wards 26, 63, 70, 87 and 95 have been reserved for women from scheduled castes, wards 21, 27, 31, 81 and 93 are also reserved for scheduled caste candidates, but in the general category.
Meanwhile, women have been reserved wards including 1, 2, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 28, 30, 34, 35, 37, 38, 39, 40, 50, 51, 52, 53, 55, 56, 65, 66, 67, 68, 71, 72, 73, 75, 77, 78, 88, 89, 90, 91, 94 and 99 for the upcoming civic body polls.
