The Mahila Court here today sentenced a 70-year-old man to undergo three years imprisonment for harassing a woman.

The prosecution case was that Jeyaraj, working as a manager in a church in Rathinapuri, was booked for sexually abusing a woman staff on March 3, 2012.

Cases have been registered against him under Sections 376 (rape) and 4 of Tamil Nadu Women Harassment Act, as he (then 66 years old) allegedly sexually exploited the 30-year old woman many times by threatening to remove her from the job.

As the rape charge could not be proved beyond doubt, the Mahila Court acquitted him of rape charges and convicted him for harassing the woman. Besides sentencing for three years of imprisonment, the court ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.
