Ooty: The 70th Infantry Day was celebrated at Wellington Military Station near here today.

On this momentous day in 1947, the first contingent of the infantry landed at Srinagar Airfield and fought a courageous battle to save Kashmir Valley from intruders.

A solemn but impressive wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial of the Madras Regimental Centre was organised, as part of the celebration.

Wreaths were laid in the honour of infantry men who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. Brig Ajit Singh, (Retd), Brig GS Rathore of Defence Service Staff College, Brigadier SK Sangwan, Commandant of the Centre and other serving and retired senior infantry officers and soldiers, laid the wreaths.
