Thanjavur: A total of 9,215 applicants failed to appear for the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission’s Group IV exam in Thanjavur district today.

Of the total 47,749 candidates who had registered to appear for the exam in the 161 centres in nine taluks in the district, only 38,534 took the exam.

Collector A Annadurai inspected the exams held at Meenakshi Chandrasekaran College of Arts and Science in Pattukottai and Enathi Rajappa Arts and Science College, while TNPSC member P Ramamurthy inspected the exams held at Blake Higher Secondary School in Thanjavur and Christian Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Thanjavur.

Thirty flying squads conducted checks at the examination centres to prevent malpractice. The examination was fully videographed in all the centres. The Group IV exams were held for 5,451 vacancies for posts of typists, stenographers, writers and drafters across the state.
