When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Coimbatore, Unnal Mudiyum Thambi a.k.a UMT Raja created a portrait of the PM using the words of Swami Vivekananda. Through political parties, this portrait reached the PM. Now that elections are just around the corner, UMT Raja has created his message on a wooden ruler, urging people to cast their vote, responsibly.

This city-based 46-year old man works in a jewellery outlet in Coimbatore. He shares with The Covai Post that he worked on his latest piece of art after work hours and he took three-days to complete it. A small blade and a big needle are the tools that he used to create his ruler with his message. The wooden ruler is one-ft long.

“Through my piece of art, I want to convey to the public not to get carried away with freebies and cash during this election. People must exercise their franchise responsibly,” UMT Raja says. He adds that he used a ruler to craft his latest work as he wants to symbolically convey to the people to measure themselves on how loyal they are going to be while they exercise their right to vote.

UMT Raja shares with us that he has created three such rulers and he will hand them over to the district electoral officer and the District Collector soon.
