Thanjavur: An abandoned baby girl rescued from the old bus stand in Thanjavur some four months ago was handed over to the adoption centre run by the Kasturba Gandhi Hospital located in Gandhigram near Dindigul under the Cradle Baby Scheme for further care and upbringing.

The about 15-day-old baby girl was found abandoned on the premises of the old bus stand in Thanjavur on the night of August 7. On hearing its cries, people waiting for the bus bound for Ariyalur, in the old bus stand, rushed there and were shocked to find the baby girl lying abandoned. As the baby’s mother did not turn up for long, they handed over the baby to the personnel at the police outpost located there. Later, with the help of Childline personnel, the baby was admitted to the Raja Mirasdar government hospital.

Now four months later, Collector A Annadurai handed over the baby to the representatives of the home run by Kasturba Gandhi Hospital in the presence of V Bhagyalakshmi, District Social Welfare Officer, Thanjavur.
