The Tamil Nadu police have arrested a suspected naxalite in Sriperumbudur, who had been on the run since last year. He is believed to be involved in a number of crimes and unlawful activities.

According to the police, the arrested has been identified as Surendra Yadav from Chattisgarh. He had fled the state after a major encounter between the police and the Maoists. He was posing as a labourer and hiding among the workers at the construction sites in Sriperumbudur for almost a year.

Based on a tip-off, the Tamil Nadu Q-Branch investigation team took Yadav into custody. The police are now trying to find out if there are more naxalites hiding in the state.

The Chattisgarh police have been intimated about the arrest and they are on their way to take custody of Surendra Yadav.
