Kottayam: Close on the heels of the death of Murugan of Nagercoil after delay in getting medical assistance, another person died due to lapses on the part of the police.

The unidentified person suffered serious injuries while crossing the road in Kollam. Local people rushed to the scene and made attempts to get help from passing vehicles late on Thursday night. Later, they saw a police vehicle nearby and officials for help. The police said they were part of the Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala’s security team and left the spot with the leader.

Later when the control room was contacted, Chavara police sent an ambulance in which the injured was taken to a nearby health centre for primary support and from there was to have been taken to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. But by then his condition worsened and he was taken to the newly-started ESI Medical College which has limited facility.

The victim in his mid-50s succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The locals feel the person could have been saved if the Opposition Leader’s police team had ferried the injured to Thiruvananthapuram.

The police claimed there was no lapse on its part as they had intimated colleagues. The government was targeted from all sides after the death of Murugan recently. A police team is investigating the reason for lapse.
