A 23-year-old Income Tax department employee was attacked with acid on Tuesday night at his residence in Chennai.

According to police, an unidentified person knocked the door of Mohit Pathak’s ground floor residence at Thirumangalam near Anna Nagar. When Mohit opened the door, the miscreant hurled acid on his face and fled in his two-wheeler. Mohit was rushed to a nearby hospital. He is said to be out of danger.

Mohit, a hockey player, joined the IT department through sports quota. Police suspect the attacker could be a person known to Mohit, who hails from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. They said the attack could be due to professional or personal rivalry.
