In a peculiar incident, members of the Social Justice Party have petitioned the City Police Commissioner A. Amalraj here on Monday demanding action against Union Minister for Shipping, Highways and Railways, Pon Radhakrishnan, for riding a motorcycle in a BJP Rally on Sunday without a helmet.

According to N. Paneerselvam, a member of the Party, said that according to a High Court order, helmet was made mandatory for all two-wheeler riders and pillion riders from June 1, 2015, and the rule was implemented by both the Central and the State governments.

“However, Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan has defied the rule by riding a two-wheeler without wearing a helmet during a party rally near the VKK Menon Road along with other Party cadre,” he alleged.

He further said that the city police should take action against Radhakrishnan under the Motor Vehicles Act 12.
