Activist close to former PM found dead on pavement

COIMBATORE: The body of a politician, who had participated in a padayatra with former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, was found on a pavement here on Friday.

Sangali Rajan, a Janata party activist, had joined Chandra Shekhar, the national president of the party, in January 1983 for four-month padayatra from Kanyakumari to New Delhi.

With Janata Party disintegrating, Rajan started his own outfit Kamaraj Desiya Manram in Kuniyamuthur in the city to propagate ideals of Kamaraj.

By profession 77-year old Rajan was an electrician and stayed in the Manram office in Kuniyamuthur and used to sleep on the platform of late due to problem to climb the steps, police sources said.
