AIADMK functionary attempts self immolation

Hurt by the incident where the banner of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was torn reportedly by DMDK workers, an AIADMK functionary in Udumalpet, today attempted to immolate himself.
According to police, Thangavel, Area Secretary in Udumalpet, suddenly poured kerosene on his body and lit a match stick, near the party office in full public view.
He was however rescued before he could be seriously burnt. People extinguished the fire and took him to the Government hospital here.
