Thanjavur: Former Union Minister of State for Finance S S Palanimanickam has urged the central government to immediately find an amicable solution, without taking it as a prestige issue, to the difficulties being faced by the common people due to the demonetisation exercise.

Palanimanickam, who took part in the human chain organised by the DMK in Thanjavur protesting the central government’s haste in implementing demonetisation and the state government for not taking any action to redress people’s grievances, said, “The central government has taken a wrong decision claiming to combat black money.”

“Common people have been worst affected due to the demonetisation exercise. Considering the difficulties being faced by the common people, the central government should immediately find an amicable solution to this issue without taking it as a prestige issue,” Palanimanickam said.

The party’s south district secretary and Thiruvaiyaru MLA Durai Chandrasekaran led the human chain formed by the party cadre from near the Dravidar Cooperative Bank in Karanthai to Thanjavur railway junction. Among others, the party’s former minister S N M Ubayadullah, urban district secretary T K G Neelamegam and Orathanadu MLA M Ramachandran participated.
