Two functionaries of AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, who participated during the party chief Jayalalithaa’s public meeting in Salem, died due to suffocation and as a result of getting caught in the stampede.

Police sources in Salem said that R. Periasami (64) and S. Pachiannan (55) were those who lost their lives. This one comes close on the heels of the Vridhachalam incident, where again two people died while returning home after attending Jayalalithaa’s public meeting.

S. Karunakaran of Chidambaram and M. Radhakrishnan of Jayamkondan in Ariyalur district were the two persons.

Salem district police said that Pachiannan fainted at 3.35 p.m. at the meeting venue. Though he was taken immediately to the hospital, he died on the way.

Police further said that Periasami also died on the way to hospital.
