The Pollachi police on Saturday arrested 25 persons belonging to various organisations for burning a copy of the Supreme Court judgment on GAIL pipeline case.

The verdict by the Supreme Court has allowed the setting up of pipelines to transport natural gas in the state of Tamil Nadu. This has sparked an outrage here, with many farmers’ associations and political parties condemning and protesting against the verdict.

Joining the bandwagon, members of the Tamil Nadu Manavar Mandram, Dravidar Kazhagam and Makkal Vidudhalai Munnani burnt the copy of the judgment near Pollachi. They were detained by the Pollachi police.
