A man was arrested on charges of burning his wife to death in their house in Ramanathapuram in the city last night.

According to sources, the couple, Dhandapani and Lakshmi, had a quarrel last evening over some domestic issue. In a fit of rage, Dhandapani doused Lakshmi with kerosene and set her ablaze. Hearing the screams, neighbours rushed to the house and took her to the government hospital.

Based on Lakshmi’s death confession in the hospital, that Dhandapani had been torturing her for the last 20 years, both physically and emotionally, and that he set her ablaze, police arrested him and remanded to custody.
