Arsonists identified through video clippings; more arrests likely

CCTV footage taken from strategic locations and shops are becoming handy for the police to nab the culprits in the violence, arson and looting during the funeral procession of Hindu Munnani functionary C Sasikumar, on September 23.

Police have identified a large number of people through the footage, on the18 km stretch from Government Hospital to Thudiyalur, and so far nabbed 80 persons involved in the crimes, police sources said.

Police are on the lookout for two persons who torched a two-wheeler showroom cum garage in Sundarapuram in the early hours of yesterday. The fire was put out by policemen, who were on their rounds around 4.30 am.

The footage from the garage revealed two masked persons pouring kerosene in the showroom and setting it alight, police said.

More arrests are likely, based on the footage. One video, which has gone viral, shows a number of youth looting a leading mobile shop in Thudiyalur area, they said.
